Tasted from two different samples, one drawn before the filtration and one afterward, the unfiltered 2018 Pinot Noir "Unique" displays a dark color and opened with a deep, pure, fresh and intense, tart and concentrated, slightly toasty bouquet of black cherries and black berries intertwined with notes of dark chocolate, tobacco, cedar wood box, crushed slate and bloody hints of crushed iron and herbs. Generous on the intense yet elegant palate, this is a fleshy and concentrated Pinot with tart cherry and black berry flavors on the refined and promising, impressively tensioned finish. This full-bodied wine can currently give only hints about its talents, but the sustainable mineral grip and lingering salinity are highly promising. From the filtered tank that was ready to be bottled in early 2020 and already sulfured, the 2018 "Unique" opens very clear, pure, fresh and refined on the elegant yet also still reductive nose and shows a discreet expression of dark fruits, graphite, bloody meat, schist and chocolate. The palate is perfectly silky, round and fleshy, seamlessly textured, with intense and concentrated fruit and a crystalline and nervously mineral backbone structuring the full body. The tannins are perfectly extracted from both skins and 100% new oak barrels. This is a juicy yet pure and finessed, delicately fresh and crunchy Pinot that I'd cellar for at least 3 or 4 years but store enough bottles to drink in 20 or even 30 years. Tasted in January and February 2020.

The dark ruby colored 2016 Pinot Noir Malans Unique displays perfectly ripe, refined and beautifully spicy fruit on the nose, with dark berry and cherry aromas and the spiciness of slate and toast. This is a gorgeous mix of intensity and purity as well as generosity and precision. On the palate, this Pinot is amazingly pure, fresh and silky textured but also fruity and transparent, with great finesse and intensity. It's almost incredible that this wine was aged in 100% new oak (which was medium and even more light toasting), because you simply don't get any toasty flavors.

The 2015 Pinot Noir Malans Unique is deep, pure and toasty/spicy/slatey on the noble and refined nose. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, round, enormously juicy and generous yet fine and elegant Pinot with very fine, juicy tannins and crunchy slate grip on the finish. This wine is intense and elegant, with ripe and mellow tannins and a long, salty finish. This great Pinot is still a baby, but with its lush purity, it is a great future wine. Tasted at the domaine in Malans in November 2018.

Donatsch's dark ruby colored 2015 Malans Pinot Noir Unique opens deep and spicy on the nose, with ripe and flinty fruit aromas. Full-bodied, elegant and silky on the palate, this is a rich, round, intense and powerful Pinot Noir with concentrated but juicy fruit, fine tannins and lingering, perfectly integrated acidity. The 2015 is still a baby and should be cellared at least for ten years. Tasted in Zurich, August 2017.

Silky textured, vital and fresh on the palate, this is a firm and powerful Pinot with transparency, elegance and finesse. Rich, dark ruby with a purple shimmer in the middle. Fresh bouquet, cherry touch at the beginning, then currants, wild raspberries, fine spices, freshly broken rosemary needles, precious woods, cedar notes and white peppercorns, amazingly communicative and therefore - at least in this youth phase - incredibly accessible. On the palate with a vicious acidity, balanced and at the same time demanding astringency. A noble Pinot essence with grand cru allures. He is so sensational that I expect him to be at full maturity, the maximum rating in about eight years.

As small as the 2013 harvest was, this Pinot is concentrated. For Martin Donatsch one of the best wines he has pressed so far - you can tell why: even in the youthful stage, dense, elegant and with aromas of dark forest berries, a little liquorice and a fresh herbal spice. Silky tannins and a great acidity predict a wonderful development.

Very subtle, delicately tart, sour aromas, elegant, rich in finesse, somehow fresh in a special way, some lemon balm, smoky, flint, with air, some currant, mineral. The power has an immense substance as a counterpart and a very close-knit fruit on the other hand, brilliant acidity, ripe tannin, still to be integrated wood, needs time to integrate the power even better, will soon close, put away! Very long, concentrated and very powerful finish.

Garnet with a fine edge on the outside. Shows a dream bouquet right from the start, delicate menthol notes, plum tones, cassis, conveys a lot of primary aromas and still seems to be in its fruit phase. The nose pattern is multi-layered and has a playful note. On the palate, full, substantial, meaty rations indicate the concentration, the texture is silky and so the tannins, which still indicate reserve, are extremely fine. This is an intoxicating unique in a class of its own.

Medium garnet red; Bouquet still subdued, noble wood embossing, notes of black cherry, plum, violet, herbs, dark chocolate; strong attack on the palate, dense, slightly rough tannins that need ripening, juicy acidity; ends long and a bit bitter. Elegant, tasty Pinot Noir with development potential.
